EXHIBITION: SHADES OF HOME
Worama Umpairat, known as Mamo, is a wild pigment artist with a focus on paintings and ceramics. As an illustrator in 2019, she threw away all her paints and started making her own from clay, sand, ashes, indigo and rocks. Mamo believed in using natural mediums to reflect the inner emotions and capture the state of mind at a moment in time. Her paintings has a life of its own as it shrinks, cracks and flows. Sometimes creating an unexpected outcome that's like a natural phenomenon.
Shades of Home was crafted between 2022-2024, this collection reflects Mamo’s deep reverence for the earth's hues and her personal journey through life. The collection stems from an exploration of natural pigments, including tree saps, indigo, minerals, rocks, ashes, sand, charcoal and more. Among these, clay was Mamo’s preferred medium. She’s captivated by clay's transformative journey — from its cool, wet state to its textured, dry form which reveals a rich array of colors. Each pigment, drawn from varied landscapes, carries a sacred essence, reflecting the vital connections that link us to the natural world.
